In Hinduism,there are nine planets which are of great significance.These planets are,Sun,Moon,Mars,Mercury,Jupiter,Venus,Saturn,the Moon's nodes which are the Dragon's Head and Dragon's tail,recieves the status of planets and becomes the eight and ninth planets respectively.

The Lords of these planets are named after the planets themselves and they are worshipped in almost every aspect of Hinduism from a simple pooja to an elaborate yagna or wedding.

Worship of these dieties bring forth blessings in the form of protection and success in various undertakings.

One of the most import factors of these planets is the role they play in Hindu Astrology.Their exact positioning in the Zodiac can enhance or deplete the physical,spiritual or financial growth of an individual.

Consultations with the family Pandit (priest) or Astrologer will determine the effects these planets might have on an individual at specific times in his lifetime and the necessary pooja that should be performed in order to pacify the Lord of those planets. Such pacification brings peace,joy,happiness and even promotes longivity to those who performs these rites.

Hindus in Trinidad have always worshipped the Sun God Surya.He has been their source of inspiration on a daily basis.Serving not only as a universal clock but also as a refuge for spiritual guidance.Hindus awake early on mornings and having performed their ablutions they offer their worship to the Sun God in the form of offering a Lota (brass vessel)of water and a flower. Then they would continue with their daily duties.
