The Rajasuya Yagna was complete and Yudhisthira as King must now
perform the honour of washing the feet of the Kings and the saints
present there.Custom has it that he must first appoint someone who
would be the first to receive the honour then the others in accordance
with their rank etc.
It was a very difficult task for Yudhishtira to select the number one
person from such a crowd of great personalities. He thought it a wise
decision to give the responsibility to Bhishma since he was the most
senior family member there.
Bhishma immediately announced to the assembly that there is none
amongst them who is more worthy for such an honour than Krishna. Most
of the wise kings and the sages agreed with him and accepted his
decision but there were a few who didn't and became a bit noisey.
Sishupal a cousin of Krishna was one of them.He concluded that Krishna
was not the guru of the Pandavas nor was he a sage or the eldest
person present there.Bhishma tried to cool him down but he became
abusive to Bhishma too.
Sishupal became totally out of control and finally Krishna had to ask
him to stop the nonesense. As was expected,he did not and in the
twinkling of an eye the Sudarshana Chakra appeared in the finger of
Krishna and severed the head of Sishupal.
Then a light came out of the corpse and merged into Krishna's body
and everyone present there were left in awe.Krishna explained that
Sishupal was once a divine being and a servant of Lord Vishnu. He was
reborn as the evil king Hiranyakashipu,as Ravan and now as Sishupal.
He has now been released from that cycle and has returned to serve
his Lord and Master.Only a very few in that assembly was able to
understand who Krishna really was.
